Mommy Must Haves

As I’m sitting here going through my baby stuff, I realized that there are so many things that I have to thank for getting me through those tough, first few weeks of Motherhood. Having a baby is hard work, both mentally and physically, and in order to be the best Momma you can be, and heal as quickly as possible, you have to take care of yourself!

Let’s talk about boobs, big or small, we all have them, but if you don’t want to read about them, or mine, then go ahead and skip this part! – Right from the start I knew that I wanted to breastfeed Bexlee, but what I didn’t know is that it was going to be a lot harder than I thought. If you don’t know, the way your nipples are formed totally makes a difference in the difficulty of breastfeeding. No matter what, it’s going to be painful at first, I mean you’re taking one of the most sensitive parts of your body and giving it to a starving baby to use as a chew toy. OUCH! For me, I had flat nipples (sorry If that’s TMI, but I warned you in the beginning.) So getting Bexlee to latch was beyond painful. Had I have known earlier, I would’ve started pumping a week or two before just to get them prepared… but I didn’t. Having flat nipples meant that It was going to be a little harder for me to breastfeed until Bexlee had nursed enough to make them protrude a bit more.

I breastfed Bexlee in the hospital, and yes it was painful but it only got worse when I got home. The first two weeks I did nothing but pump, I wanted to give my nipples a chance to do the right thing… so Bexlee was fed formula and (pumped) colostrum << liquid gold. -Read about it- Until it wasn’t as painful to breastfeed. In between pumping sessions I would cover my boobs with Motherslove nipple cream to prevent them from drying out and cracking. This stuff was a serious LIFE…. BOOB SAVER. It kept my boobies from drying out and I never had to worry about wiping it off before pumping or nursing. It’s made with all natural, organic ingredients so it’s safe for your baby. Even after my boobs popped out a bit more, and I was (and still am) able to BF exclusively, I still continued to use this for awhile just to kind of help ease the soreness. It’s a great thing to have, and it also works wonderfully for dry lips!

LEAKING BOOBS. There is nothing more awkward than little, or big wet spots on your shirt from your overflow of milk, especially if you’re out in public. There are so many different kinds of nursing pads that you can get, but my Kindred Bravely nursing pads were something I could not go without. I was hesistant to buy them at first because I didn’t think I would use them that much, but I was wrong. These nursing pads are made with the softest bamboo cloth, they are washable, reusable and come with the cutest carrying case! The only downside is that they do stick to your boobs from time to time, I would just spray a little water to remove them if they ever got stuck. They are discreet and fit in your bra perfectly.

Kindred Bravely Nursing PadsI will definitely be keeping mine to use again whenever I have another baby.

Last but not least, the one thing that I am SO GLAD I had… The Fridababy Fridet Momwasher. I cannot even explain how amazing this thing is if you have a vagina like birth. Having a baby takes a toll on your lady bits… its painful to use the bathroom and even more painful to wipe (which is why I’m assuming your Doc tells you not to do that.) So instead you use a peri bottle, they work wonders but I found that they difficult to use. The fridababy is comfortable and easy to use… it even comes with its one storage bag! Not only is this amazing for postpartum care, but it also works wonders for that time of the month.

If I had to suggest one thing that every Momma needs, it would be the Fridababy. I literally took mine with me everywhere after I had Bexlee. It’s does wonders for your sore parts and it’s carrying bag keeps it clean and easy to pack!

Well that’s it for my “Mommy Must Haves” but don’t you worry, I will be back with more!
